Built to complement tutoring

Practice between sessions should support your teaching, not compete with it.

Tutors bring context, strategy, feedback, and personal guidance. SHSAT Buddy gives students another place to apply that instruction through structured digital practice and detailed explanations.

01Reinforce lessonsGive students opportunities to use the skills and approaches introduced during tutoring.

02Build digital comfortHelp students become more familiar with focused reading, solving, and pacing on a screen.

03Support reviewUse detailed explanations to help families understand errors and revisit the reasoning behind each answer.

Three ways to use SHSAT Buddy

Choose the kind of practice that matches your program.

Product access, student volume, pricing, timing, and any special partnership terms are discussed and confirmed before an offer is shared with families.

  1. 01

    Between-session reinforcement

Use Daily Quiz as a shorter, recurring practice option with SHSAT Math and ELA questions and detailed answer explanations. Families can choose all Math, all ELA, or a 50/50 mix, so daily practice can match the current tutoring focus.

  2. 02

    Full-length checkpoints

Use adaptive or fixed-form digital practice tests to support conversations about pacing, endurance, and broader performance.

  3. 03

    Seasonal program support

Discuss digital practice for summer programs, intensive courses, or other defined preparation periods.

Clear roles

Your instruction remains central. Students gain another way to practice.

TUTOR OR PROGRAM

Guide the preparation

  • Teach concepts and problem-solving strategies
  • Provide individualized feedback and context
  • Choose where digital practice may reinforce the program
  • Discuss an access model that fits the student group
STUDENT AND FAMILY

Practice and review online

  • Use SHSAT Math and ELA practice from a compatible device
  • Review detailed explanations after answering
  • Use shorter practice or adaptive and fixed-form checkpoints
  • Review available results through the parent-managed account

Account and data clarity: Parents currently create and manage student accounts. Tutor access, reporting, consent, and any student-data sharing must be confirmed for a proposed partnership before it launches.

Partnership process

Start with the way your tutoring program already works.

Partnership terms depend on your students, schedule, preferred products, and how you want families to access them.

  1. 01

    Describe your program

Share your organization, student volume, current format, preparation season, and partnership goal.

  2. 02

    Choose the practice use

Discuss Daily Quiz, adaptive or fixed-form full-length tests, a seasonal plan, or another suitable combination.

  3. 03

    Confirm the terms

Document products, eligibility, pricing, access, responsibilities, communications, and any reporting that is actually available.

  4. 04

    Introduce the student pathway

Share approved instructions with families so parents can set up access and students can begin practicing.

What can be discussed

Partnership terms should match the program, then be confirmed in writing.

The existing site mentions student discounts, bulk access, product packages, seasonal programs, and co-branded initiatives. Those are potential discussion topics, not automatic commitments. Availability may depend on student volume, product selection, timing, operational needs, and an approved agreement.

A first inquiry should identify the students you serve and the problem you want the digital practice to solve. SHSAT Buddy can then outline the product and access options that fit the program.

BRING TO THE FIRST CONVERSATION
  • Approximate number of SHSAT students
  • Independent, center-based, online, or hybrid format
  • Daily Quiz, adaptive tests, fixed-form tests, or a combination
  • Target launch date and preparation period
  • Questions about access, pricing, or reporting
No special pricing, package, reporting feature, or co-branded offer should be advertised until SHSAT Buddy confirms it in writing.

Product and format clarity

Adaptive and fixed-form full-length tests are both available.

The adaptive practice test follows the current 100-question structure with 50 ELA and 50 Math questions in a 180-minute session. Fixed-form tests remain available as 114-question digital checkpoints.

Tutors can use either format or both, depending on the agreed partnership scope. Review the official test format on the New York City Public Schools SHSAT page.

STANDARD PRODUCT DISTINCTION Use Daily Quiz between sessions and full-length tests as checkpoints.

Daily Quiz supports ongoing practice with explanations.

Full-length tests are available in adaptive and fixed-form formats. Each costs $19.99 under the standard family offer.

Any tutoring-partner package or different commercial arrangement must be confirmed separately.

  • 01Extend practice beyond scheduled tutoring sessions
  • 02Add digital work without replacing your instruction
  • 03Use explanations to reinforce student review
  • 04Discuss access for a defined group or preparation period
